A song that reminds you of an event

A song that reminds me of an event is fairly similar, at least to me, of a song that reminds me of a place.  "The Sweet Escape", for example, reminds me of a very particular place during a Marathon Monday celebration.

But since I've already told that story, let me share another.

"2 Become 1", Spice Girls
This was the song I had my first slow dance to.  It was the last week of classes before summer vacation and our elementary school class threw a party ... which devolved (or perhaps evolved) from games of 7-Up to slow dancing.  I don't remember any of the other songs played at this party except this one, because that is when the hottest guy in the class (who I remember had gotten sick earlier that morning) asked me to dance. And despite the fact that I am usually pretty squeamish about people vomiting and the like, I guess him having been my on-and-off crush for two years cast the squeamishness away, because I said yes.  And some unknowing boy eventually cut in during the song, but I'd had those minutes with him.

I remember dancing later with at least one other boy in the class, but I have zero recollection of what song that was.  It was very possible that whoever was "DJing" had "2 Become 1" on repeat.

Now when I think about it, I recognize the suggestive undertones of this song. I'm pretty sure I had an idea back then too, but like so many other veiled pop songs (from "I Want Candy" to "Candy" by Mandy Moore), I would've just seemed like a pervert if I had brought it up as a pre-teen. Luckily, I was too busy enjoying my first dance with the hottest boy to worry too much about the perversion of the Spice Girls.

Other songs:
- "Parentheses", The Blow ... one of the most built-up events of 2007 for me, the biggest school dance of the year. It turned out to be a bit of a dud, but just before the end of the night, I danced on a couch with the most desired person on campus (I'm not just saying that to create a parallel to the above story, this person was actually voted the equivalent to Big Man on Campus) to this song. Or maybe it was another song, but this is the song I remember :). [I just searched my house like a mad person to find the diary in which this information would've been recorded, but I can't find it. Which leads to greater concerns, like ... who's read it and whether they know stuff about me I don't want them to know ;).]
- "Buy U A Drank" and "This Is Why I'm Hot" (T-Pain and MIMS, respectively) will forever remind me of the birthday I spent at a dance club when Kevin Federline made a surprise (to me) appearance.
- "Umbrella", Rihanna was extremely popular just as I was graduating from school, and when the song came on at our gala, it brought a rush of bittersweet emotions with it.

We finally bought a waffle maker. I've been lusting after a griddle and waffle maker since 2005, so this makes me happy. Had gingerbread waffles for breakfast, and the first floor still smells of them!

Mmm, tasty mess.

I've not been a good girl about one of my "resolutions" this year ... today I ordered a pair of lined Tretorn rain boots. The shoes I own aren't cutting it this New York City winter! My greatest fear is that I won't need these insulated rain boots ever again after this season, but they were on sale so perhaps they were a wise purchase anyhow.
