A song that you hear often on the radio

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Sorry for slacking lately with the 30-day song challenge (not that anyone out there is sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for my answers, exactly) ... I've been trying to get some more sleep after over a week of getting 4-5 hours of sleep a night.

In any case, I'm not really sure whether I'm supposed to respond to this "question" in a positive or negative way.  Meaning, am I supposed to suggest a song that I hear on the radio often that I love or dislike?

I'll do both.

I don't listen to the radio very often -- in the morning as I'm getting ready for the day, but it's usually talk and celebrity gossip.  And then I'll listen to it when I'm in the car.  Growing up, I was big on the "hits" station, Z100 here in New York City, but I've found music to have deteriorated over the years and now favor stations like 102.7fm (can't remember its moniker), which is like AC for people who grew up in the '90s and '00s.  (Never thought music from the '90s and '00s would qualify as "oldies" so soon!)

So with my limited consumption of radio these days, these are the NEW(ish) songs that I hear often that I like and do not like:

LIKE: "DJ's Got Us Falling In Love", Usher

Usher's been JAMMIN' this past year or so!  I absolutely loved "OMG" -- it was one of my favorite songs of 2010, and this one is nearly as good.  I loved Usher back in the late '90s but he sort of fell out of favor with me when he released "Yeah!"  That song annoyed me to no end.  Well anyway, he's back.  Maybe Justin Bieber's given him a few pointers to keep his music fresh?  Oh, and guess which song just came on Z100?

"Forget You", Cee Lo Green
"Back to December", Taylor Swift
"Hold It Against Me", Britney Spears

DISLIKE: "The Time", Black Eyed Peas

I like the Black Eyed Peas ... not so much recently and probably not much since 2005.  But this song is just all sorts of atrocious to me and my ears.  It's like a not-so-contemporary rehashing of an old song that sounded better in its original form.  Plus, it just reminds me of those Sandals or Club Med commercials (it was some resort).

"Cooler Than Me", Mike Posner
"I Like It", Enrique Iglesias
"Hey, Soul Sister", Train
"Grenade", Bruno Mars

Edit 1:05am // Seriously?  Z100 just played "I Like It", followed by "Hey, Soul Sister".  If this isn't reason enough to go to sleep before 1am, I don't know what is.
