If I were a touring musician ...

I know it's not in the spirit of the anti-materialistic attitude I've been trying to adopt since the beginning of the year, but it's FUN to think about!

I read through some of these riders and some are outrageous (Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry), some outrageously funny (Foo Fighters, Clay Aiken ... unintentionally so) and others surprisingly meager (Mandy Moore). And of course, there are the middle-of-the-road New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys ones. Though I don't really understand the coffee and donuts thing for the New Kids. Or why Katy Perry needs a perspex modern table or for people to not speak to her, but maybe she's met some creepy dudes in her time.

What would your rider include?

At first I thought I'd just like some water, soda, chips and candy, but then I put myself in a traveling musician's shoes -- coming off a tour bus after a long and bumpy night's ride on a cramped and probably poorly circulated bus.

So I've come up with this:

Some soda in case we're queasy -- ginger ale and Coke or Cherry Coke (1 six-pack each?).
2 six-packs of bottled water (no real preference but I never did like Dasani!)
A bottle of cranberry juice and a bottle of some other fruit juice like white grape would be lovely.
Above drinks should be chilled over ice or refrigerated, of course.

Some tea service and maybe coffee for my crew, with milk, sugar and all of that.
Some fresh fruit to cleanse the system (pineapple, oranges, strawberries, grapes).
For snacks, something simple like tortilla chips and some Pace salsa or Doritos and
Chocolate or cookies would probably do

I'd probably like to take a shower, so that's where the Dove bar soap and towels come in, I guess! Although I'd probably rather have my own set of towels ... just in case.

Wireless internet is a given, but that's it for entertainment.

And maybe to get the party started a little early, a couple bottles of bubbly (the cheap stuff like Andre would do) or maybe two six-packs of Miller High Life HA!
Plastic cups would suffice for the above drinks

Leaving meal decisions up to me is just too much ... I'd leave that to my production or tour manager or whoever makes those important decisions.

... everything else I could honestly pick up at a Walmart or Target on the road. Musicians need to stretch their legs every once in a while too ... And I don't know how artists leave choice of scented candles up to "purchasers" ... scent is so important, and plus, I'd love an excuse to spend an hour at Yankee Candle!
