A song you love from a genre/artist you usually dislike
Monday, October 03, 2011This one, hands down, goes to Maroon 5 right now. I wouldn't say I love "Moves Like Jagger," but it's a song I can't get out of my head once it enters it. One morning, after a day of hearing it 4 or 5 times randomly on TV or online, I woke up humming it. How irritating!
I really have no reason to dislike Maroon 5. There are things about Adam Levine that rub me the wrong way -- from his extremely high and sometimes grating voice to his casanova-like ways (though to me, he falls short), I just can't find much to like about him. And the rest of the band -- poor guys! Why is it that in so many of their videos, the band is relegated to the background, practically looking like your run-of-the-mill garage band when Adam is all GQ'd up with the hot girl?
Well anyway. There was a time I liked their music, before Adam's voice began to irritate my eardrums ... and long before I found his persona obnoxious.
And of course, what better song to demonstrate what I have outlined about my dislike for Adam Levine than the very lyrics to "Moves Like Jagger":
I put on a show
Now I'm naked
You say I'm a kid
My ego is big
I don't give a shit
And it goes like this
Take me by the tongue
And I'll know you
Kiss me 'til you're drunk
And I'll show you
All the moves like Jagger
I've got the moves like Jagger
I've got the moves like Jagger
I don't need to try to control you
Look into my eyes and I'll own you
There ya go.
