Goodbye, 2011

Friday, December 30, 2011

For the past few years, I've been more than happy to see the year go. I guess the past few years have been pretty awful for me and I've just wanted a fresh start and revived hope for a better year ahead. But this year, I'm actually kind of sad about 2011 ending ... it's been a year full of real highs and real lows and tons of impulsive decision-making, but as we all know, we need the lows to feel the highs.

2011 ended a 3-year period of working at a job that didn't suit me, and 2011 brought me to Taiwan, a country I wasn't sure I'd ever visit again. It brought me many great joys (an amazing Adele concert, New Kids On The Block, Jordan Knight, Grace Potter concert), new friends (through NKOTB and school), a revived appreciation for life and schooling.

And of course, there's been this blog. I started this blog on January 1, 2011 and it's been both more and less I hoped for. I've made some new friends through the blog (a pleasant surprise), but I think the blog has taken a more impersonal direction than I originally intended. In 2012, I hope to steer it closer to the direction I originally intended for it to have, even if it means blogging less consistently.

The main reason I'm kind of hesitant to let 2011 go is because I'm a little afraid that 2012 might not even live up to 2011. But such is life! And I'm in school, learning Chinese, meeting new people ... healthy (I think) and much happier than I was this time last year, so it would probably take a lot to make 2012 worse than 2011, right?

Happy New Year!!! May 2012 bring you all the things you wanted that all the years before didn't. :)

P.S. I'm not sure what I'm doing for New Year's yet, but if I do anything, there will be a full report here, of course!

Some photos from my favorite things from the past year ...
