Music Monday playlist: Start of Autumn

I saw these and thought they were so ridiculous I had to pose with them.

I only discovered this iTunes playlist widget recently ... what I don't like about it is that it only offers clips of songs and is obviously more of a marketing/promotional tool than a real playlist. What I do like about it: it doesn't require a login or a special account (does everyone have Spotify yet?), and it has music that most other places don't. Like Caroline Rose, for example, a girl I went to school with.

I feel that as I've gotten older, I've been more and more in touch with the weather outside my little window, probably to my detriment at times. Sunday morning, the first full day of autumn, I woke up to the sounds of gusts raking through leaves and branches, and scraping litter along the asphalt road. Fall is officially here! Which means I'm in a totally different mood, which means I need a new set of tunes to listen to.

Aside from some new releases I've been dipping my ears in (The Killers, Little Big Town, Band of Horses), I also spent part of Thursday afternoon gleefully watching One Direction's free iTunes Festival concert. I am totally unashamed. I haven't liked much of their music since they stopped doing covers on The X Factor UK, but I'd also let that translate to not liking them as a boy band. I do. I think three-fifths of them are adorable/gorgeous and I love most of their personalities. So One Direction is present on this playlist.

And, right on cue, something (the weather?) has been tugging on a corner of my heart and saying, "You want to be in London! You want to be in London." This has been a recurring feeling of my autumns for the past 3 years, but is probably something that finds its roots in the September I flew to England for a wonderful year abroad nearly a decade ago. It's hard to believe that I haven't been back, in spite of my annual heartsickness for England -- and I've been to Italy twice within that same time period. I'll be back eventually ... but there are just so many places to see and just not enough time.

iTunes playlist with 9 clips; Spotify version with 7 full songs, without Caroline Rose and one of the One Direction songs:
