Garnier Clean + Balancing Daily Exfoliator for Combination Skin skincare review PINCHme product beauty ingredients
If you're wondering why I've been doing so many reviews of Garnier products lately, it's because I recently signed up for PINCHme, which is similar to Influenster in that you receive samples of products free of charge in exchange for your review. PINCHme is different from Influenster in that you don't receive a box of random products; with PINCHme, you can select which products you'd like to sample.

I used to be a big fan of Garnier facial and haircare products, and I was definitely curious about the new skincare line they rolled out late last year or earlier this year, which seems to feature a lot more fruits. (I don't know if that's entirely true, but that's what I got out of the marketing.)

Since I have combination skin, I was offered a sample of the Garnier Clean + Balancing Daily Exfoliator for Combination Skin, which is a grapefruit and pomegranate-scented pink-colored gel with little exfoliating granules in it. Its claims:
Customized cleansing + skin type specific care
Daily gel exfoliator targets T-Zone to deeply cleanse away oil and impurities.
Formula infused with antioxidants; grapefruit and pomegranate softens dry areas to balance skin.
In one use: excess oil is removed and skin is smoothed.
After one week: skin's texture is refined and complexion balanced.
Pretty big claims! I didn't use this daily but replaced my usual St. Ives Apricot Scrub with it, which I use twice a week in the summertime. I got about 3 uses out of the sample packet and didn't notice much, if any, of a difference with whether my skin was more balanced while using this. I've been using raw African black soap as my usual facial cleanser.

The gel is quite thick and the granules are small and few. It truly is a daily exfoliator in the sense that the granules aren't going to do much to scrub at your skin. This is more of a daily cleanser than an exfoliator. The gel is tinted pink and smells delightfully of grapefruit with little or no trace of pomegranate, but this is grapefruit fragrance done correctly ... unlike the almost putrid "grapefruit" scent Neutrogena has to offer. My face felt pretty smooth and soft afterwards, and clean but not squeaky clean -- which is important in a facial cleanser.

Would I purchase this? Probably not. As a daily face wash it does a decent job, but as an exfoliator it's pretty terrible. The gel texture takes some getting used to, even coming off of Neutrogena's gel Oil-Free Acne Wash, because it's so thick. A little does seem to go a long way. It doesn't do much other than cleanse your face though it does contain a little bit of salicylic acid, but it cleanses fairly well without drying the skin out. The fragrance is invigorating, however, and is probably the best thing about the Garnier Clean + Balancing Daily Exfoliator.
