Bea Miller Beatrice X Factor 2012 Young Blood Music Monday Radio Disney Fire and Gold

I was on Spotify a while ago (when am I not these days?) when a song came on that had caught my attention. I can't even pinpoint what exactly about it caught my attention. I just know it sounded fresh. I looked up the artist's name and the song was by Bea Miller. The album cover featured the profile of a young female with platinum blonde hair and a backwards baseball cap. All of this seemed very familiar to me.

I knew I'd heard the name somewhere before, and the only Bea anything (I mean, how many people name their kids "Bea" or "Beatrice" these days?) I'd come across in music in recent years was Beatrice Miller from The X Factor in 2012, and she was about 13 years old then. I looked into this. It's the same girl ... what a difference two years and a bottle of bleach makes.

I liked her on The X Factor because she had a really old soul quality to her, and wasn't afraid of being quirky. Plus, she had a really cute smile and a wholesomeness about her. She came in ninth place that year. I didn't think we'd hear from her ever again, at least not until she was in her late teens or early twenties.

Anyway, she's "made it." I even heard her on Radio Disney (yes, I still listen to that sometimes). It's nice to know that she's found a niche for herself and has found success. For the most part, her songs aren't what you'd typically consider teen music, though I'm not exactly clear what "teen music" is these days. Maybe they've started playing her on Top 40 too, I can never be sure ... the lines between teen and young adult and older young adult music have become increasingly blurry. But let's just say I wouldn't be embarrassed if I were caught listening to her stuff ... then again, I do still listen to Radio Disney. You be the judge.
