goals 2016 new year resolutions

I've been putting this entry off for some time, and now it's nearly the end of the first month of 2016. Hi! I'm back! Who knew the fourth and final semester of my graduate program would be the most hellish, most hectic, most filled with busy work? Not I, that's for sure.

But that was last year. In the past month, I've moved from the Midwest (Michigan) and am now sticking out the worst of winter in Florida, job hunting all the while. It almost feels as if I never went to grad school and never experienced a Michigan winter. Almost. But it's something you never really forget.

A lot has happened since I left for Michigan that I haven't recorded here on the blog, and I think that will come up in my entries in the upcoming months. I signed myself up for one of my ridiculous challenges, which I failed, big time. I'm still deciding whether or not to finish it, even though my personal deadline has passed.

But for now, these are five goals for the year:

Use eye cream.
Girls (and guys) these days are starting their anti-aging at, like, 16 or 19. At 16, I didn't even wear a daily moisturizer when I battled the sometimes harsh New York City winters, and at 19, I think I was just integrating a daily SPF into my routine. No nighttime moisturizer. I'm well past the time when beauty editors would recommend beginning an anti-aging regimen, but maybe it's really time to start. I've been using Innisfree (a Korean natural skincare brand)'s Olive Real Eye Cream since the beginning of the year.

Read 15 books.
I set a goal of reading 10 books last year and I really, really slacked. I think I got in 5 books before the end of the year. I've already read two: "I Feel Bad About My Neck" by Nora Ephron and "Nickel and Dimed" by Barbara Ehrenreich. I need to, also, get back on my Rory reading trail. If half of the books I read this year are from the Rory Gilmore Book Challenge list, that would be excellent.

Write and record a song.
I've been telling myself I'd write a complete song and figure out how to get it from my electronic keyboard onto my laptop to edit and track for years now, but this is the year I'm gonna do it!

Learn Spanish.
Okay, remember when I first started this blog back in 2011? I'm pretty sure "Learn Spanish" was on that list too. I'm going to start relatively small and commit myself to finishing this book, which I've owned for about 1.5 years now.

Get something published.
Honestly, my dream job all this time has been to become a freelance writer/professional blogger, or whatever the job title is of someone who can work from home and produce creative content. In the past I've shied away from putting myself out there, but it's time to dip a toe in the water.

I think those five goals are reasonable, or at least from my perch in January it is.
