Shrink My Stash!

Thursday, February 04, 2016

I've had a chance to go through my entire makeup "collection" since I've been "home." Not one to wear much makeup, most of my stash consists of tried-and-failed products I've been loathe to throw out. It seems that the eye makeup category has especially failed me.

Below is a photo essay (ha) of my entire stash, fragrance included. Smelly things are a weakness of mine.

Physicians Formula Powder Finish Concealer CoverGirl Moisture Wear Maybelline Lip Polish Flesh Light Catty Eyes eyeshadow

- Physicians Formula Powder Finish Concealer, Yellow ... circa maybe 1999
- CoverGirl Moisture Wear Concealer, Light ... from maybe 1998
- Maybelline Lip Polish, Flesh Light ... from 1998, definitely throwing out
- Maybelline Expert Eyes Eye Shadow, 39 Catty Eyes... from 1999-2000ish?

(not pictured: L'Oreal Wear Infinite eyeliner, Ebony)

So after all of that, I've decided that 1) I have an eye makeup/fragrances hoarding problem, and 2) I need to work harder on getting rid of some of them.

So for the foreseeable future, I will be working on getting my stash/rotation down to:
- 1 powder
- 2 blushes
- 1 bronzer
- 1 highlighter
- 3 lip products (maybe 5 for variety, we'll see)
- 3 eyeliners (a liquid, a pencil, a white/flesh-colored one)
- 2 eyeshadows/colored eyeliners
- 2 concealers (an under-eye, a blemish concealer)
- 1 eyelid primer
- 1 mascara
- 3 fragrances (not including those I'm planning to keep indefinitely)
Total: 20 products ... from, like, 85

How long do I think it'll take me? Honestly? 10 years. Especially since I have a difficult time resisting new smelly things. I already have my eye on the James perfume from By Rosie Jane ... for when I'm done with the Gucci Flora Eau Fraiche.

But definitely no eyeliners or shadows.

  1. I don't think it will take you 10 years to reach your goal. But I would definitely throw out the cream products from 1999. And I think you could make serious dent on those lip products just by using something every day :)

The only makeup goal that is taking me the longest is the damn eyeshadows, those are my weakness and I want MORE, but I know I don't really want more.

    1. Hm, you're right, I should probably just throw it out! I'm like you and don't like throwing things out without giving them a go, but sometimes it's just better to get rid of it. Haha, I can definitely see why eyeshadows are addictive -- if I didn't have hooded eyelids or if I only knew how to apply eyeshadow so that it looks decent on me, my eyeshadow collection would probably be frightening. Good luck on using yours up!
