First Look: Kate Young for Target

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

The campaign photos for the Kate Young for Target line is out, and was shot by sometimes controversial fashion photographer Terry Richardson. It features four "It Girls," DJ Leigh Lezark of the Misshapes, actress Nathalie Love (and daughter of "Vogue" Senior West Coast editor Lisa Love), model Hailey Gates and "fashion influencer" Lily Kwong.

Here are the photos ...

I had a feeling, when looking at the sketches that were published earlier this year, that the real-life manifestations of the sketches wouldn't pan out quite the way I wished they would.

Granted these photographs are only one representation of the dresses and we can't touch, feel or look at them close up, I'm pretty disappointed. I was hoping the chartreuse sketch would've actually been chartreuse or at least lime-colored, and more of a shift dress than a body-hugging one. The other two outfits are fairly close to their sketches, though somehow not executed in a way that makes me want to run to the store to buy it right away, or even in a way that makes me think it's something I can't buy or put together somewhere else.

Two other dresses that will be part of the $14.99 to $89.99 line ...

Neither of them stand out to me in any way: the black dress looks like your run-of-the-mill prom dress from Nordstrom, and the red and lace dress just seems impractical for anyone who doesn't have red carpet events to attend. But the black heels, I love. If you look closely, they have a gold-colored rim around the shoe's opening.

I guess we'll just have to wait until April 14, when the collection hits Target, to decide whether this line is a hit or a miss.
