Prabal Gurung for Target

... it's almost that time again, when Target releases a new designer collaboration. They haven't really done a successful, full-on release of one designer in a while, and I'm wondering how this one will go. I don't know if most people know who Prabal Gurung is, which could be a challenge for Target. I didn't hear of him until about 2011 when he collaborated with Sally Hansen on some Salon Effects designs, which I thought were really lovely. They sold out before I could get my hands on them ... maybe a sign of what's to come?

Whether or not Americans have heard of him, his collection with Target hits stores and the website on February 10, and Target released the entire lookbook last weekend. Here are some of the goodies, which will range from about $15 to $200, and have great names. The product names and prices were taken from this Elle.com article.

I left out some of the more conventional items, because no one really wants to see black pointy-toed flats or heels. What do you think? I actually think this collection is more daring than many of them have been. I see these items being purchased by worn by either a relatively young crowd or a relatively bold crowd, since the patterns tend to be less ... "wearable."As for me, I tend to straddle the line of daring and conventional when I purchase the Target designer items, since there's really no point in buying something that doesn't have some of the designer's flavor injected in it.

I'm eyeing the white blouse with the neon yellow/green lace overlay, though I can't imagine many instances when I would be able to wear that! I also really like pretty much all the floral-patterned items, though knowing the number of dresses I have, I'd probably go for the shorts. And I do like the bright blue ruffle blouse, though I hate ruffles. I think the structure of the shirt itself looks masculine enough to overtake any girliness the blouse might give off. I'll have to have a look in person, since oftentimes the designer collections are not depicted well and turn out to either be much more appealing or far worse in person.

I don't think this collection will sell in Missoni-like proportions, but I think it'll sell better than the Neiman Marcus holiday collection which seemed not to have moved at all. 75% (and maybe more) off on items at Target still ... Will you be checking it out at all?

  1. Oh wow. These are pretty. Lately I tend to like colourful clothing. Maybe because it's so hot down here so I need something bright to cheer myself up. Really like the 'Flora crush' ensemble.
