It's surprising Missy Higgins isn't bigger than she is in the U.S. Actually, I couldn't even tell you what her "big" song here in the U.S. was, or how exactly I heard of her. I'm guessing the song was probably "Where I Stood." I just remember my awareness of her came in the form of a wave of artists maybe 2006 or 2007, along with a load of similar artists to her, like KT Tunstall, Kasey Chambers.

Anyway, Missy is one of those artists whose records I have lying around somewhere but I never listen to. When I hear her on the radio, I am reminded that her music is interesting or unique in some way and that I should probably go and give her record a listen. I like her voice -- it's kind of rough (but not in a gritty way, just a kind of boyish way) and multi-faceted, and her lyrics are almost always unexpected and interesting to me.

Here are some songs I like ...

  1. Missy! Yay - an Aussie. I prefer her older songs. The Special Two is one of my faves. Scar was her breakout song over here.

ps: Most things are cheaper in the US. I'm jealous. Our sales are only ever around 20% off.

    1. Yeah, I was shocked at how expensive cosmetics were in Australia, particularly things like nail polish and Revlon, which are seen as sort of cheap and fun over here. Revlon was also crazy expensive in Japan, which I thought was kind of funny ... I guess over there it's more of a department store brand, whereas in the U.S., it's a drugstore brand.

I haven't really listened to much of Missy's newer stuff, but I heard "Secret" on a television show and decided to check out what she's been up to. She's so underrated/unknown over here!
